Montagu Music Soceity

The Montagu Nature Gardens will once again be the setting for a relaxing and entertaining sundowner concert hosted by the Montagu Music Society on Saturday 1 February 2020.

“Blues in the Night on Broadway” will feature some sultry blues, some sexy jazz, some hits from Broadway and West End musicals, and maybe even an opera aria or two.

Four of Cape Town’s most sought-after performers will headline the show, which starts at 17h30 for 18h00.

Louise Howlett, classically trained at the Royal College of Music in London, and now a South African ‘in murg en been’, will entertain us with her vocal skills. While maintaining her classical roots, her love of jazz and the musicals will feature prominently in this program.

Internationally renowned composer and arranger Albert Combrink is a multi-faceted musician working in a variety of genres: from classical, instrumental and vocal accompaniment, through to chamber music, musicals, opera, jazz and tango.

From starting to play the drums at age 11, and then adding electric and acoustic bass, Dylan Tabisher has gone on to become one of South Africa’s leading percussionists, excelling at playing the marimba, for which he has won numerous national and international awards.

Charl Clayton started playing saxophone during his high school days, and then went on to study classical oboe at Stellenbosch University. He is now one of Cape Town’s most in-demand musical collaborators.

Tickets at R100 for adults and R20 for children will be available at the Nature Garden main gate from 17h00 on the day of the concert.

Bring a picnic basket and some long cold drinks, and celebrate the summer with some great music in a picture-perfect setting!
