Auditions are being held in Cape Town for the 2011 Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival’s Choral Academy and Oratorio Festival. Choristers and soloists are needed to take part in a 6 week programme during June and July 2011, working with a different conductor and coaches on a different Oratorio each week. An international youth choir and soloists of 70 is put together annually through world-wide auditions.

In 2010 there were 9 different concerts that took place throughout Northern Germany. They performed various masses and A Capella programmes and worked with the orchestras such as the French Chamber Orchestra. They even performed a new work “Vocabularies” with its composer Bobby McFerrin.

Capetonians who were invited to go to Germany last year were Friedel Mitas, Maude Montierre and Sunnyboy Dladla.

Says Sunnyboy Dladla: “Schleswig-Hollstein festival is very nice to be part of, because all the members of the choir are trained soloists from different countries. All members have chance to audition for a solo for oratorio. I found it very encouraging that chorus members have the chance to be soloists. It was also great to be able to work with different conductors in different projects and a variety of works. I have been very blessed and lucky to work with Mr Burg and Christoph they have given me a wonderful opportunity Audition for the Messiah. They invited me to sing in Germany as a soloist in December and I also did the Schubert Mass with in July last year. Its a great opportunity and it’s lots of fun to travel a bit and perform in cities.”
