More on the CT Tango Ensemble:

The Ensemble was established by the Classical Accordionist Stanislav Angelov in 1996. The inspiration for this was the music of Astor Piazzolla – a great Argentinean composer of 20th century and a Bandoneón virtuoso. Since 1996 besides studying the music and most importantly the interpretation style of Astor Piazzolla the interest of this group of musicians spread into all styles of Tango music as well.
They have released three CDs (“El Tango en Africa” 2003; “Tango Club” 2010; and “Tango Dreams” 2014), which are regularly played on Classic FM in Johannesburg and Fine Music Radio in Cape Town as well as on many other radio stations in South Africa and abroad.

Highlights:

  • 30 March 2011 – Premier of new South African Film “Visa Vie” in which two tracks from Tango Club are included in the sound track of the film (“Adios” and “Cape Town Tango”), both composed by Stanislav Angelov;
  • 13 April 2011 – “Tango Club” nominated for Best Instrumental Album for 2010 in the 17th MTN South African Music Awards;
  • In 2011 the Ensemble was invited to tour Germany with their first concert taking place at the prestigious Gewandhause in Leipzig, which was a great success; and
  • In January this year they launched their latest CD “Tango Dreams” with a sold out show at ArtsCape Theatre in Cape Town.
