Njabulo Madlala will include three young singers  on his programmes. Lynelle Kenned is a student of VProf. Virginia Davids at the UCT Opera school, and other young performers are selected from a series of workshops and masterclasses Madlala has given while visiting South Africa.

About Njabulo Madlala:

He is a South African Opera star currently based in the United Kingdom. one of this country’s most distinguished operatic exports, Madlala recently graduated with distinction from London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The music school from which he holds a Bachelors of Music Degree, a Masters of Music Degree and a Masters in Music Performance Degree. Njabulo has travelled around Europe and taken part in master classes given by many of the world’s greatest singers and pianists, including Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Dennis O’Neill, Della Jones, Sir Thomas Allen, Ildebrando d’Arcangelo, Isobel Buchanan, Marie McLaughlin, Ann Murray, Philip Langridge, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau, Rodger Vignoles, Yvonne Kenny, Dame Anne Evans, and others. Leading conductors and directors he has worked with include the Royal Opera’s Music Director, Antonio Pappano, Dame Joan Sutherland’s husband and conductor Maestro Richard Bonynge and as well as other important people in the business.

Winner of First Prize at the 2010 Kathleen Ferrier Awards, Njabulo Madlala was born in South Africa. He studied on the Post-graduate Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under Robert Dean, and at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice with Dennis O’Neill. He has sung Don Giulio L’ajo nell’imbarazzo at the Barga International Festival, Peachum The Threepenny Opera at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Rangwan Koanga at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Fisherman Bird of Night for ROH2,Porgy Porgy and Bess at the Cheltenham Festival, Bello La Fanciulla del West and Schaunard La bohème for Opera Holland Park and Mel The Knot Garden at the Montepulciano Festival and, most recently, Don FernandoFidelio for Opera Holland Park.

Amongst the recent performers at Diemersfontein was the extraordinarily talented Pretty Yende, currently attending La Scala in Italy. These benefit concerts have been held to assist these singers and artists in furthering their careers, and establishing their reputations.  The other beneficiary of this trust is the Wellington Preparatory School scholarship fund.
