The Pro Musica Divina String Ensemble, conducted by Dr Steven der Merwe, is proud to announce its Spring Gala Concert on 24 September 2016.

This program of music includes a variety of works, including the Suite from the opera Carmen by Bizet; Ravel’s sublime “Pavane for a Dead Princess”; the “Oblivion” Tango by Piazzolla; a string sonata by Rossinni as well as music by Tchaikovsky; Mozart and Bach.

The program will also feature the world premiere of by Steven van der Merwe’s latest composition, “New Light” for piano and string orchestra. [read more…]

Arias and instrumental items were specially chosen to provide a non-denominational devotional experience for audience members to reflect and meditate on the Easter experience. Reflective works for soprano and obbligato instruments centred around the great St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach are interspersed with works as removed in time as they are interconnected in subject matter, including Hildegard von Bingen and Sergei Rachmaninov. To celebrate Easter, we presented a programme of arias and reflective works for soprano and obbligato instruments centred around the great St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach.
