Escualo (The Shark) was first recorded by Piazzolla on the Album “BIYUYA” in 1979 in Buenos Aires. Also released as “Escualo”, this is actually the first record of the reconstituted quintet that would be basis for most of Piazzolla’s work during the 80s. The compositions in this record are all related to shark fishing, Piazzolla’s favorite passtime while vacationing in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

In 1978 he had formed his second Quintet, with which he would tour the world for 11 years, and would make him world renowned. He also returned to writing chamber music and symphonic works at this time.
