About “La Muerte del Angel” by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992):
For Alberto Rodriguez Muñoz’s 1962 stage play Tango del Angel, in which an angel heals the spirits of the residents of a shabby Buenos Aires neighbourhood, Piazzolla added new pieces to an earlier tango that gave the play its name. Munoz required a narrative suite that encompassed a story of innocence, deceit, violence and death, and reconciliation. “La Muerte del Angel” is the third of a four-part “Angel Cycle”.
